Year 13 - £42750 Scholarships for students who have applied to STEM subjects

 

Funding & Experience Available to Support Individuals from Lower Socio-economic Backgrounds to Launch a Successful Career in the Nuclear Industry 

Cogent Skills, a delivery partner of the Nuclear Skills Plan currently have an exciting opportunity for your students considering a future in STEM. This initiative provides substantial financial support for university studies and hands-on experience in the nuclear industry, helping to break down financial barriers and open doors to a rewarding career.

 

This opportunity is delivered as part of an industry and government-backed skills plan to help create the nuclear workforce of the future and is available to students starting university in 2025 or 2026.

 

Summer Placements in the Nuclear Industry

Students will gain hands-on experience through two paid summer placements (one after each year of university), worth £4,000 each. These internships provide real project work, key skill development, and valuable industry connections.

 

Financial Support for University

To help with the cost of university, this scheme offers:

  • £27,750 to cover university tuition fees
  • £15,000 subsistence bursary (£5,000 per year for 3 years)

 

Who Can Apply?

This is a means-tested opportunity to support those who need it most. Eligible students must:
✔️ Be from a lower socio-economic background (e.g., eligible for free school meals or from a low-income household)
✔️ Be a UK, Commonwealth, or EEA national with the right to live and work in the UK
✔️ Be planning to start a STEM undergraduate degree in September 2025 or 2026
✔️ Be committed to completing a 3-year degree and working in the sector afterward

 

Commitment to the Industry

Students who accept this sponsorship agree to work within the nuclear sector for a set period after graduation. If they leave the sector early, they may need to repay some of the financial support received.
